Alternative Energy...

DON'T FORGET TO TURN IN THE EQUIPMENT!!!

What do you feel is the best way to jumpstart the move toward green energy; therefore moving away from fossil fuels?
We know doing this sooner rather than later will be beneficial. How do we push this along and not wait until we must do to a lack of fossil fuels?

In Class Research; Then Respond...

Imagine you have been sent as a Peace Corps volunteer to a poor African nation experienceing widespread hunger. Design a strategy for assesing the needs of the people and for contacting appropriate sources for help.

What sources and organizations would you contact? How would you go about evaluating what was needed, and what was feasable in terms of aid? What would be the priorities?

I need to see specifics (organizations, etc.). You need to do your research, see what has been/is being done in similiar situations, and how can you apply that information?

Responses are due no later than Thursday Feb. 5th @ 11:59 p.m.

Farming

O.k., here’s the new one and it is actually posted!

There have been success stories and land degradation stories solicited by the UNEP and presented on the website http://www.oasisglobal.net/successes.htm
Look at some of the stories, comment on what you see is common between them, and how this relates to the video we watched in class “The Oregon Farming Story”.

Responses are due no later than Saturday night (1/24/09) by midnight (12:00)

A New Direction in Social Modernization

This chapter (chapter 6) brought some interesting ideas to the table as far as showing that poor developing countries do not necessarily need to, nor do they require the economic trappings of developed countries to reach a stable a population and increase the standard of living (example:Kerala)

What do you believe are they key aspects that must be emphasized in order for a poor country to undergo safe sustainable social modernization without becoming industrialized? Why is it difficult for many countries to acheive this?

So we know that overpopulation is one of the biggest contributors to the current and projected environmental problems we face. We have discussed many of the roadblocks that stand in the way of curbing our current rate of population increase. In addition we have touched on some possible solutions to population issues as well.
One of the areas we touched on was education. Is education the answer needed to create long-term stability and a stabilization of the global population? If so, what kinds of education are absolute necessities? If not, what do you believe the answer is?

Answer completely, but I do not need a novel. State specifics, and make sure you support your opinion.

You must submit your answer via the comment tab, no later than 12:00 a.m. Wednesday November 26, 2008. Have a great Holiday!
